So this is what ex Paris Vogue editors get up to... when they're no longer editing Paris Vogue. Convincing the likes of Naomi Campbell, Dasha Zhukova, Mario Sorrenti et al to get together and in the name of a Barneys campaign. And, because they probably didn't have anything better to do that day, her kids offered up their time too. So here's an impossibly cool, Rick Ownes-clad Carine in her own ad campaign for her first client since going freelance. Julia in Tisci's panther-print Givenchy. Vladimir in his own clothes, because French boys are cool like that. And some Natasha Poly, just for good measure. And just like that, she's back. And so am I.

Natasha Poly for CFDA nominee Alexander Wang by Inez and Vinoodh. The designer scooped up the prize for Accessory Designer of the Year - and was presented with his award, quite fittingly, by none other than Iris Apfel. (And for those who are stumped by the name, think: thick rimmed specs and strings and strings of beads). And, about time too; those booties and studded bags (and their chain store imitations) have been popping up on counters and Polyvore sets the world over ever since Wang's very first accessories line back in '07. The amount of times I've lusted over a Freja bootie, or a Rocco duffle - don't get me started on those Alla leopard-print wedge mules - and I still have not gone ahead and added-to-cart. Might have to change that, and this might just be the piece to do it with...

summertime dreaming

Now that Sydney is moving deeper and deeper into winter (well, as close as Sydney can get to any kind of winter) I am finding myself dreaming of tropical days away. Now matter how much I am relishing my crisp morning runs every weekend along the coast from Bondi to Coogee, I can't help looking at the latest o/s fashion spreads with the slightest pangs of envy. The upside to all of this? I can start planning my wardrobe for the warm weather, with inspiration coming from the latest spring/summer collections at Rosemount Australian Fashion Week. Despite my usual penchant for a monochromal palette or a mixture of neutrals and khakis (especially, the khakis) I will definitely be trying out some of the zingy combos I've spied at shows like Bianca Spender, Shakuhachi and Ginger & Smart. Number one on my hit list? Rusty, earthen orange and bright, bold blue. On second thought, maybe that's best left to the sunrise on my morning Bondi runs. That's the plus side of this kind of dressing being on the other side of winter - I've still got six months to warm up to the idea.

And so it begins...

The first week of one of the two craziest months of the year has finally kicked off. For fashion people, that is. New York Fashion Week, and the start of the autumn/winter 2011 season. The meteoric rise continues for Alexander Wang, who almost jokingly cited his latest collection as 'ironic luxury'. Coming from any other designer, this would sound like your typical pretentious fashion babble, but for the GQ/CDFA menswear award winner, no truer words could have been spoken. With a touch of almost unfamiliar luxury (soft angora knits fading into silken satin) the pieces still retained the cool-girl factor the brand has become synonymous with. I'm not quite sure what the cool downtowners (and many wishful bloggers others) would be wearing (or wanting to) if it wasn't for the relaxed luxe of this designer. Very big fan of the cleverly combined textures - knits, sheers and silks all in the one piece, and all with minimal fuss. And another (one of many) show highlights? Natasha Poly taking her rightful place centre stage - closing the show for the infallible Mr. Wang with her newly reacquainted blonde locks. 

Speaking of infallible, it seems another young New Yorker is too walking down that very path. Joseph Altuzarra, previous Marc Jacobs design intern, is another name who will surely appear come the round up of season trends. Loving that the utilitarian look of seasons past is appearing yet again. Mixed textures (sheers, satins and knits), voluminous outerwear, delicate dresses and again, funnily enough, furry shoes, were all central features of his latest outing. Fuzzy footwear aside, I wonder if any of his sky-high leather lace-ups will be gracing the feet of editors come next season of Tommy Ton-lensed street snaps. Time will tell.

Socks and sweaters

Socks and sweaters. There's something about this combination that is just so... cosy. A homespun twist on Julia Roberts' Pretty Woman days when she donned Richard Gere's white shirt... and only his white shirt.  Despite being in the midst of a Sydney summer, there's something about this shot that makes me want ditch the light cotton tees for an oversized woollen sweater and snuggle up. With knitted socks to match. It's an easy kind of comfort that doesn't even have much to do with fashion (unless the sweater and socks in question are Michael Kors of course). The combination conjures up primary school memories of sitting round a creekbed campfire, with molten marshmallows oozing out of their slightly blackened shell, hanging off a whittled down gumtree twig before being gobbled up with greed. Those were the days where my camping attire consisted of grandma's hand-knitted jumpers, in an array of creams, blues and pinks, dad's Explorer socks and not much more.

Those are the best images, the ones that gently nudge you into recalling a time or memory of which you will be forever fond, allowing you to revel in its glory once more. And this one by Mario Sorrenti for the February issue of Vogue Paris does just that. Styled by new editrix Emmanuelle Alt, we get a quick glimpse of Natasha Poly and her wispy fringe in the stunning editorial simply called "Natasha Poly" - further proof that simplicity is most definitely where it's at. Au naturale, as my mum likes to say. Here's a collection of sweaters I'll be kicking around in (or wishing I was) come winter.

Natasha + COS

Natasha Poly and COS. Two of my favourite things. Shot alongside Eddie Klint by Alasdair McLellan for the Swedish label's autumn/winer 07/08 campaign and lookbook. I've never seen these shots of Nat before, which is surprising because on many a rainy day I find myself traipsing back through her old tFS threads. I love her with brown hair, and now she's gone back to it I am reminded of the days when she was just starting out. Blonde or brown, these shots are breathtaking. Soft and whimsical but at the same time strong and resilient. The perfect embodiment of the phrase "they only have eyes for each other", and with these two, I almost forget it's just a fashion shoot. But then again, when it looks this good, the question becomes; is it? That's the thing about great photography, it captures a moment that can forever be real.

Givenchy SS11

The remaining pictures from Mert & Marcus' campaign for Givenchy SS11 have finally leaked on tFS overnight. Along with Dutch newbie Daphne Groeneveld and albino model Stephen Thompson we have Tisci favourite Mariacarla Boscono in front of the lens once again. They've kept the same hauntingly beautiful thread running through the rest of the pictures, and I love that contrasting shadow shot, where Daphne appears almost as Mariacarla's ghost. And of course, as predicted since her Paris exclusive for the house back in September, Natasha Poly (and her new brown locks) also landed a spot.

Natasha's Givenchy

It's no surprise that Givenchy's Riccardo Tisci is most definitely pro-Poly. Both Nat and Tisci made their simultaneous debuts for the house back in 2005 for the autumn haute couture collections. Natasha has been a regular fixture in Tisci's line-up ever since, up until until the most recent spring/summer 2011 shows, where she was a Paris exclusive. Meaning: she was booked exclusively for Givenchy- and did not walk in any other Parisian show.  She featured in their autumn/winter 2008 campaign alongside fellow Tisci favourite Mariacarla Boscono, Lara Stone and Lakshmi Menon. And who can forget the Natasha Obsessed issue of Muse, where she was shot by none other than Riccardo himself for the cover (and spread) featuring many a Givenchy accessory, including the infamous couture crown of... spikes.  She had the first look (of 11) for the house's latest couture showing, and nabbed the November 2010 cover of Vogue Paris, shot by Mario Sorrenti, styled with the same brown (yes, brown!) plaits she sported for her Givenchy exclusive.  Where is all this leading, you may ask? To a spot in the new Givenchy campaign, I say. 

Here's the first leaked imaged from the SS 2011 camapign, so far featuring Dutch newcomer Daphne Groeneveld (another Tisci favourite who was also featured in the exclusive spring couture lineup) and albino model Stephen Thompson. Shot by photographic duo Mert & Marcus, this picture is hauntingly beautiful. The black and white combined with the overlapping exposure makes for a campaign that will be nothing short of mesmerising. Watch this space.

Couture by Night

I wasn't going to blog today, I swear. I was going to be a good girl and finish all my assignments. But then, just as I was almost done with my quick fix of editorial for the day, I found this. I've always said to myself that someday I would start an inspiration wall of sorts, someplace to hang all the stories, snapshots, styles and supers that have been saved and stored over the years, but have never found that one really great image to propel me to do so. Until now. Natasha Poly and Baptiste Giabiconi, lensed by Karl Lagerfeld (who else?) for Numéro #116. Featured in the editorial Couture by Night, I love every single element of this shot.

I love the two street lamps in the background; the way they cast a mellow shadow over the provincial apartments whilst providing a scene for these wandering lovers of the night. I love the ease with which Baptiste is holding Natasha, like she is nothing more than her own dainty champagne flute. I love the black and white of the photography, and how it is deliberately mirrored through their matching couture. I love the way Natasha's toes are pointed down, like a ballerina; aware but effortless in her positioning at all times. I love his strong, and her soft - but both smouldering - stares. I love it, I love it all.

Nippon Natasha

Natasha Poly for the September issue of Vogue Nippon. Styled by George Cortina, the spread features the likes of Givenchy, Pucci, Chloé and of course, (for who doen't recognise that jacket?) Balmain. Oh, and I nearly forgot, the whole thing (scenic location included) was caputured by the Kaiser's cam. Not sure if I am loving the grainy photog, but hey, any excuse for more NP pictures right? What did I tell you about Mr. Lagerfeld's newfound love for Natasha?! Find her on the cover here.
